How To Paint Paneling
I recently had a one of my Painting Book customers ask me about panting paneling. Because he had a customer to do an estimate for this next week.
I told him: I would do just like you said. ÂOne coat of primer (enamel undercoater  made for all finishes) and two top coats of eggshell or satin (whatever sheen level the customer wants)Â.
This is the correct way to paint paneling. You need a "high-hide" enamel under coater that will be good for all top coat finishes, flat, eggshell or satin.
And then if the paneling is dark, it will take two finish coats to cover the dark color.
Some people like to fill in the grooves. I use drywall compound and do a couple of "skim coats". You can also caulk in any shadow lines after priming.
