Painting Business - How To Make Your Business Look Good

If you do custom house painting, you will want to use the best quality paint available. People want the best anyway. It will make your work look good and your business as well.

One exception is that I use mid grade flat on ceilings. For Bathrooms and Kitchens I use a special low-luster top-of-the-line paint for wash-ability.

I always use the best paints and stains for outside work also. The only exceptions would be for rental properties or some commercial work.

But for nice homes I always use the best quality professional paint possible. I recently did a deck stain job. While I always use two coats on everything I paint, the directions for deck stains only call for one coat and it looked beautiful when I was done.

And it was a deck stain that was highly recommended by the paint store. A brand that they have carried for years.

One of my newer customers who did his own deck used a deck stain that came highly recommended according to a leading national product evaluator.

Big Mistake! While they may do a good job rating some products, they really don't know squat about paint. He was not impressed! He turned around and went where I get my paint and bought the right stuff for the job. He was pleased with the results.

He found out the hard way and then went and bought the right product (the same product that I use). Now his deck is painted correctly.

It pays to use a real paint store. Not the home improvement centers. They specialize in just paint, painters tools and maybe wallpaper (and not everything under the sun), and they know paint. They know what to recommend for different painting projects.

I had another customer who had already bought paint from a leading home improvement center. Again, she said it was the best paint because a certain "leading national product evaluator" said so.

I used the paint she bought and found out that it was an inferior product. She went down to a real paint store that I recommended and came back sold on the product that I recommended and that I use every day.

Those home improvement centers make a killing on low-grade paints because they can mark them up high. Their average price is $23 a gallon for what is equivalent to $12/gallon paint.

Another thing, your customers will be much more proud of a paint job done with a leading name like Benjamin Moore or Pratt and Lambert than they will with some crapola brand made to be sold through stores that sell paint as a sideline.

Another point is that as a painter, you can get your jobs done faster and easier by using high-quality paint. You'll be done faster and your jobs will look better!
